Day22 (Sketch i)
I am continuing with sharing one new song each day <3
This week I will be going through my files and finishing old songs that were maybe abandoned half way in frustration, or I got distracted, or I simply moved on to the next thing. It feels like a good time to revisit some old friends and let them see the light of day.
The songs I will be revisiting and completing span a period of about five years, and as such are all quite different stylistically and thematically. I like the idea of 'musical sketches' - a quick flourish on the page, nothing too precious, enough to capture the moment.

Sketch (i) is a floating piece with chiming piano chords spaced apart like church bells in slow motion. Quietly in the background is the sound of an insane rainbow of lorikeets feeding at dusk. I recorded the lorikeets on my phone near my old house in Ashfield. It was so loud it was almost deafening. In this context, much quieter, the sound of the lorikeets feels peaceful, almost like the crackle of a vinyl record player.

The miraculously perfect drawing on the cover of this new album is by my friend Theodore Stein and I think captures the theme of these new works just right.
